The via ferrata is located on the outskirts of a vast development southeast of the urban area of Alfàs del Pi, less than 15 minutes from Benidorm. To get there from the N-332 we can follow Albir avenue southwards, turn right onto Cantera road and soon after turn left onto Estrella Polar street, driving almost to the end of it. There’s space for two or three cars right before a chain. We’re less than two minutes from the quarry here. If you prefer to walk a bit more you can park in the Albir Faro car park and walk up the path for 10 minutes.
The approach is really short: if we continue straight ahead from where we parked we will see the signpost with information about the via ferrata.

The via ferrata is short but a bit exposed
Recovering an old quarry was an excellent initiative on the part of the Alfàs del Pi Council. So good that other villages like Vilavella followed their example, building la via ferrata de la cantera de Vilavella. With the 220.000 euros spent on the project they managed to bolt the route, and in addition they installed a children’s playground and other pieces of urban furniture. It’s a good area for going for a stroll, and also a good starting point for hikes to the Serra Gelada Natural Park, to the Alto Governador and great viewpoint.
We recommend having an extra plan if you visit this via ferrata, since it’s really short and you should be able to finish it in less than 35 minutes, including the approach and return. The builders decided to make use of the verticality here, and the 30 metres of level change of the quarry consist of a direct ascent with no flanking.

There’s a slight protrusion that will make us use our arm strength a bit more
There’s a slight protrusion that will make us use our arm strength a bit more: it’s the most exposed section, but it poses no difficulty. We’ll go out upwards, following the lifeline up to the signs that mark the way down, which suggest either walking back down or taking the 15 metres rappel.
The big signpost at the end of the ferrata gives us two options for the way back.
» We can take the PR to the left, that will lead us to the base of the quarry in less than 15 minutes. There’s also the option of walking a bit further along the Faro trail if you want to behold the views that extend to the Peñón de Ifalch. We’ll go back down just by following the path (if we parked in Albir Faro).
» If we take the right, we’ll follow a trail that meanders down towards the south face of the quarry. We’ll walk down to an intermediate ledge and we’ll continue through an equipped area with a cable and chains, until we come across the 15 metres rappel.
